International and ASEAN culture day 2014
Institute of International Studies, Ramkhamhaeng University organized “The International and ASEAN culture day 2014” on Tuesday, September 2ed, 2014, during 12.30 hrs. -16.00 at RU Printing Press 9th Floor. At the beginning, the Director of the Institute of International Studies, Mr. Satin Soonthornpan delivered the reporting statement and summarizing the objectives of the event. The President of Ramkhamhaeng University, Assistant Professor Wutisuk Lapcharoensap gave the opening speech stating that ASEAN has highlighted on the regional cooperation in three pillars which divided into political-security community, economic community and sociocultural community and this event focused on the third pillar, mainly on cultural aspect. In this special occasion, the Former-President of Ramkhamhaeng University, Associate Professor Rangsan Saengsuk also attended to open the ceremony by hitting the Kong to open the event.
This event aims to bring together the students, alumni, IIS and RU staff to participate in cultural exchange, to encourage further understanding among international and ASEAN members and to provide knowledge as well as understanding in preparation to forthcoming ASEAN community.
The session started with Dr. Somsak Ketukanchan, the Dean of the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, Ramkhamhaeng University to make the introduction to Khon, a traditional masked drama, followed by Khon performance, the episode of the Great War between Rama and Tosakhan, from the Ramakien or Thai Ramayana Epic, scripted by the Institute of Language, performed by members of the Ramkhamhaeng Masked Dance Troupe, directed by Ajarn Thummachuk Prompuay, Department of Performing Arts, Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts. All performances are under the pratronage of Assoc. Prof. Rangsan Saengsook, former President of Ramkhamhaeng University, continued the show with ASEAN dance choreographed by Ajarn Puncharee Aiemtaveecharoen from the Demonstration School and other performances by the students of IIS-RU. In addition, there were many foods stalls prepared by IIS students, offering variety of international food such as, Chinese, Laotian, Singaporean, French, German, African, Malaysian, Burmese, and Thai.
The audience enjoyed both of the cultural show and international food. It is such a friendly event which creates opportunity for IIS students to share their home culture and to learn other new cultures and make this study in Thailand becoming the most rewarding experience for a lifetime.
