My name is Kannapa Tuburai, I had two buddies, the first one is Elena, she went back to German already, but the other one, Hella she is still in Thailand.

1. What did you do during participating in this Buddy Program in order to help newly arrived international exchange students adjust themselves to new environment?

Answer : I took my buddy, Elena to travel around Bangkok. Going to Wat pho and suggest her to try some local food (local restaurant in the town) for example: Roti Mataba, Thai tea, or ข้าวเนื้ออบ (I don’t know how to write in English). And helping her when she had a problem about her phone. She lost her phone at night market that is nearly at IIS-RU. Helping her for telling her to reported to the police at Huamark police station and take her to Dtac, True, and AIS for reported her phone number to arrest the thief.  But unfortunately, we can’t find it, and Elena wanted to buy a new sim card one, I helped her to contact the seller of Dtact.

I will show you some of pictures of me and Elena and her friends

For the other one, Hella. I just met her twice, but she is very friendly. She came here in Thailand twice, once for holiday and now she’s here for studying. So, I didn’t help her too much about staying in Thailand. But sometimes I can help her. I and Hella went out for lunch together, having Japanese food and drink some coffee at the mall.

2. What benefits did you gain from this program and how it can help you to improve yourself in terms of language, personality, knowledge, friendship in the so-called intercultural situation or cultural diversified atmosphere at IIS-RU?

Answer : Yes, It really helps me for improve my English skills, and learn new things about German culture that they will have coffee time at 4 pm. Learning some German language and exchange some knowledge about our different culture. I really enjoy it; they are so nice and friendly. For me, I think this program is very helpful and benefits for people who want to improve yourself, meeting new people, open your mind and learning new cultural, and always make new friends. And, being a good Thai for the foreigners to let them impressed. I want to say that if my buddies come back to German, we will always get in touch. And we want to see of each other again someday.

What did I do during participating in this Buddy Program in order to help newly arrived international exchange students adjust themselves to new environment?

Firstly, I went to the airport and picked Arno (name of my buddy) up to his living place behind the Ramkamhaeng University. But he also came with his 4 friends and he got me to know his friends. After I brought them to their house I brought them to the mall Bangkapi to make the “Sim Card”. And advise them where they can buy the cheap cloths or the stuffs. Then I brought them to have some food at the “Tawanna Food court”. And showed them how to order the food including with taught a few Thai words to order the food by themselves. The second day after, I brought them to the centre of Bangkok at the Siam paragon include MBK. I told them how to go back to their house and suggest them to take a taxi at first, normally. But on that day I took them to take a BTS from Siam to Payathai and connected to Airport rail link to the Ramkamhaeng station and took a taxi after. Moreover, I suggested avoiding the taxi that exploits them; I told them to tell the taxi to use the metre. After I knew them well, I took them to go to the Wat-Pra-Kaew and took a boat to across Chao-pra-ya River to viewed the temples on the another side of the river. Moreover, I brought them to the fitness centre at FBT where I also worked out there and we spent many times to worked out together. Also we went out for party a lot; first time was at Route 66. Finally, we also celebrated birthday party for our friend at Bombay bar.

What benefits did I gain from this program and how it can help you to improve yourself in terms of language, personality, knowledge, friendship in the so-called intercultural situation or cultural diversified atmosphere at IIS-RU?

First of all, I will focus on the language. I gain much knowledge in terms of English language which I can improve in this language a lot. Because I was keep talking to them through an English language and whenever I talked to them I feel more confident to speaking like I never been before. And for the personality, I am more confident, open minded. I also studied about French language from them and taught them how to pronounce Thai word. And I learned about how to go out for party with them. Then I asked the about them about the education in France and also in European. With the different transcript between Thai and France also the education there is more difficult than Thai but mostly of them work while studying too. They need support themselves for studying and also the transportation there is discipline.

It was such a great chance joining the IIS-Buddy Program and meeting new friends Laura and Katrin from Germany.

The first movement I did was introducing ISS campus to them, such as helping them to do registration, showing them around the campus in order to let them get used the campus, which buildings are most classes take place. Luckily, we took the same class, with Professor, Claudia Aymer, so it made us easier to get along with each other.

Apart from that, I and some other buddy partners took them visiting many famous place around Bangkok, such as Grand Place, The museum of Siam, Wat Aron, golden Mount and so on. Moreover, sometimes we met up at night for dinner or sitting at bars. Night market near ISS campus was a common meeting place for talking, relaxing and eating.

Joining with buddy program, I have gained some knowledge from my buddies. As long as we had to communicate in English, my speaking has been improved. Personally, one of the important things I noticed was about the time. They are really punctuated. So it made me consider myself, not to waste time and keep value on time. Moreover, we exchanged a lot of personalities, knowledge, and cultural aspects.

The last thing, even the program is ended, but our relationship is going on. We contact with each other by social networks. We will be friends for ever.

Therefore, I want to thank to the IIS-buddy program given me such great chance to know Laura and Katrin. I am really appreciated.

Your sincerely

1. What did you do during participating in this Buddy Program in order to help newly arrived international exchange students adjust themselves to new environment?

I got two buddies, one French girl and one German girl. I sent them the introducing mail after I got their emails. Then we were in touch in on WhatsApp and Facebook.

I met German girl, named Katharina, a few days later after they arrived. I was helping her and her friends to find a resident after they arrived few days. She also made me known to her friends at our first meet and we had welcome party and farewell party with her friends. She has invited me to participate the Double Degree Program in Germany, which she is the representative of the program. We were trying to see each other or travel together, but our timing was always off. So, she and I were not often met each other.

I met another buddy of mine, Morgane, French girl, a few days later, after she arrived; I could not pick her up because I was busy. She invited me to a small meeting at her place because she wants to make me known to her friends as well as to get to know other buddies of her friends. Before I met her, she and her friends have rented a house for a week, due to they could not find any residence when they arrived. I also helped them to find a residence to stay. Due to staying in the same street, I often met them. We hung out together, had meal together and had great trips together. I took them to see many tourist places and showed them how to take the bus, train and boat. Since then, Morgane, her friends and I became friends, not just a buddy who in charge of helping her to adjust themselves to Thailand. I am an exchange student in Germany, but we are still keeping in touch. I went to them in Montpellier on the second week of March before my courses start and before her internship in Belgium. Also, we plan to see each other again before I leave Germany.

2. What benefits did you gain from this program and how it can help you to improve yourself in terms of language, personality, knowledge, friendship in the so-called intercultural situation or cultural diversified atmosphere at IIS-RU?

Firstly, I learnt both languages, especially French. Secondly, I have learnt a lot of Western culture which is not from foreigner who stay in Thailand but from whom are not staying in Thailand and never experience Thai culture. They showed how German culture and French culture really are. It is not the same as the books said about Western culture but not too different. They also taught me about their culture, manner, and thoughts of people in their countries before my exchange trip to Germany and my trip to France. Lastly, I have met new people who I never thought that we could become more than the people who I just know.  Friendship is the greatest things that I got from this program.
