What are the required documents for non-degree program students to be submitted to IIS-RU?

Non-degree program students need to complete and submit the documents below to the Office of Internationals Affairs of IIS-RU by the deadline.

 1) Undergraduate Students 

  • Acceptance Letter
  • One original color photograph 2 inches taken not more than six months prior to application date
  • Certified photocopy of Identity card or Passport
  • Official copy of the degree qualification or equivalent academic level
  • Academic records, (transcript) issued by the university where the degree was completed.

2) Graduate Students 

  • Acceptance Letter
  • One original color photograph 2 inches taken not more than six months prior to application date
  • Certified photocopy of Identity card or Passport
  • Official copy of the degree qualification or equivalent academic level
  • Academic records, (transcript) issued by the university where the degree was completed.

 

Who can be the eligible candidate for non-degree program at IIS-RU?

  1. Students who applied for this program via educational agencies both domestically and internationally.
  2. Students who are studying in universities both domestically and internationally, intending to study in non-degree program in order to earn credits and transfer them back to their home universities. (The official letter of request from the Registrar or the Dean of the Faculty or the President of the Home University is required, attaching with the application form).
  3. Candidates who have completed their degrees both Thai and foreign nationals and are currently working private companies and state agencies or organizations in Thailand or abroad, they can apply for this program. The official letters of request from the current employers showing the reason and intents of study of candidates have to be submitted as a required application document.

 

Who cannot meet the eligibility requirement to apply and study in the non-degree program at IIS-RU

  1. Candidates who are currently holding the tourist-type visa as their first arrival in Thailand and intend to apply for non-degree program in order to change visa to be educational type for longer stay in Thailand.
  2. Candidates who are currently holding the tourist-type visa as their first arrival in Thailand and are studying in the language schools.
  3. Candidates who are currently holding the tourist-type visa as their first arrival in Thailand and they are in the period of application to be full-time program students of all levels at IIS-RU, but have not pass the application requirements, selection process, and not be completely admitted as full-time students by tuition fee paid.
  4. Candidates who nearly graduate from full-time programs of all levels at IIS-RU and currently are in the process of request for graduation or participation of commencement ceremony.
  5. Candidates who passed all application requirements, selection process, and were completely admitted as full-time students by tuition fee paid will not be allowed to change their study from full-time programs to be non-degree program.

When does the semester timeline start and end?

There are two regular semesters for both undergraduate and graduate exchange programs:

  1. Fall Semester or the First Semester of the Academic Year: July – November
  2. Spring Semester or the Second Semester of the Academic Year: December – April
  3. Summer Semester of the Academic Year: May – June

 

When is the deadline for applying to non-degree program at IIS-RU? 

The deadline for applying to non-degree program at IIS-RU is not fixed due to the flexibility of modular or block course system of all programs. However, if non-degree program students want to do register for courses which have been offered during the period of beginning of the semester, their application forms and required documents should be sent to IIS-RU as the following periods of time.

  • Fall Semester or the First Semester of the Academic Year: The 30th of May
  • Spring Semester or the Second Semester of the Academic Year: The 30th of September

 

When should non-degree program students arrive in Bangkok?

It is suggested that non-degree program students arrive approximately one week before each semester begins. There is no final examination to be arranged at the home university under a regular circumstance. However, non-degree program students can plan their plan of study in accordance to the current academic schedule for each semester.

 

What kinds of visa should non-degree program students apply for?

Non-degree program students have to obtain the Non Immigration ED visa which allows them to stay in Thailand for 90 days.  There are two types of visa for which they can apply, depending on their plans.

1) Single entry:  The date printed on the visa is the date by which you must use the visa to enter Thailand, NOT the date by which you are allowed to stay in the country.  After your arrival, the period of your stay is indicated by the immigration stamp which you will receive upon your arrival; this is normally 90 days from the date you arrive.  Please note that this is the date by which you should request for the extension of your stay.

2) Multiple entries:  This type of visa is good for those who plan to travel outside Thailand a number of times during the exchange term.  Every time you leave and return to the country, your period of stay will be extended by 90 days as stated on the immigration stamp you receive upon each return.  This means you can prolong your stay by leaving the country and returning before each 90-day period is over.

 

What is an appropriate budget for non-degree program students to prepare for living in Thailand?

It depends on individual and lifestyle. Typically, approximately monthly expenses are:

Accommodation rents: USD250 – 450

Personal expenses: USD170 – 250

Miscellaneous expenses: USD100

 

How can non-degree program students pay the tuition fee?

According to the rules and regulations of tuition fee payment for non-degree program students, they have to pay the tuition fee as the followings.

Non-Degree Undergraduate Fees

  1. Tuition Fee: 1,000.-Baht/Credit
  2. Examination Fees: 2,200.-Baht
  3. Academic Service Fees: 5,000.-Baht
  4. *New Student Enrollment Fees: 2,090.-Baht
  5. Materials and Handout Fee: 500.-Baht/course
  6. *Application Fee: 800.-Baht

How can non-degree program students can do register for the courses?

Registration for non-degree program will be held year-round. Consequently, students who have been accepted must pay the registration fee at any bank by informing the number of registration fee and the course code to the bank officer, including the pay-in slip showing the student’s name. After the payment at the bank, students must bring the original payment slip to the program coordinator in exchange with the temporary receipt.

The non-degree program coordinator will process only complete applications accompanied by all required documents and pay-in slip. A temporary receipt, which is used as the student ID card and use to show the immigration officer for visa extension. Students should be aware to keep it well. In case students lost the receipt, a copy of the receipt is required.

Students must submit all required documents before the first day of class, otherwise the application will consider being incomplete and the application shall be voided and the student visa would be cancelled.

Note:

  • Money orders and bills of exchange are not accepted. After the payment, the registration will be completed.                        
  • Students that have successfully graduated Bachelor’s degree is capable of registering for both the Master’s and Bachelor’s classes, however, please be aware that IIS will clearly note down and separating the courses from the Master’s and Bachelor’s program. Students cannot take Bachelor’s courses in replacement of the Master’s courses.
  • Students who have not yet graduated the Bachelor’s degree cannot attend and register for the Master’s degree courses.
  • Students registering non-degree programs both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, they are not allowed to transfer the obtained credits to any full-time programs at IIS-RU.
  • Students who are not sure that which courses they can get approval from their home university in order to transfer credits back, they can sit in or attend in the first-two days of the class start without tuition fee payment and specification of course code or course number. Please be noted that they will not be distributed for the books. After the period of the first-two days of the class start, they have to be sure to do register, pay the tuition fee, and identify the course code or course number.

 

How can non-degree program students can change/add/withdraw courses?

  • Change the course: students will be not allowed to change the course name and course code at any reason after they have transferred the tuition fees and specified the course code.
  • Add the course: students who want to add more courses, they have to pay the tuition fees according to the tuition rate in the same semester. However, if students would like to add more courses in the following semester (second semester), they have to pay the tuition fees according to the tuition rate in the new semester. Also, those who registered in the transition period between the first and second semesters have to contact non-degree program coordinator for their tuition payment and registration.
  • Withdraw the course: students who want to withdraw courses, they have to inform the non-degree program coordinator. Please be informed that they will not be allowed to switch from old courses to other new courses by themselves without getting approval from program coordinator. Also, all tuition fees have been paid for that old course will not be refundable.
  • Students have to bring the required documents for changing the course:
  • A copy of the Identity Card for foreign students
  • The original Temporary Receipt indicated the proof that students have paid the tuition fees for the mentioned courses.

 

How can non-degree program students get student certificate?

Due to the procedure of making the Student ID Card at RU is time consuming and due to the short period of study for non-degree students, the program coordinator will offer the student certificate for the non-degree students upon request instead. The non-degree students can use this student certificate for entry to the central library and to receive the reduction of any facilities in the university campus, i.e., fitness center or medical and health center.

 

How can non-degree program students get the transcript of record?

Non-degree students who have completed all registered courses must request for the academic transcript of record. Students must submit the following documents:

  • Completed request form for academic transcript of record.
  • A copy of Identity Card or Passport for international Students.
  • A copy of Temporary Receipt indicated the proof that students have paid the tuition fees and the information of the course codes.

 

How can non-degree program students choose housing?

The Institute of International Studies, Ramkhamhaeng University (IIS-RU) does not offer on-campus housing.  Non-degree program students can find a wide selection of apartments with different rent rates and facilities.  These apartments are safe and clean, located nearby Ramkhamhaeng University where public transportation is accessible.  In addition, they are encouraged to seek for inside information about each apartment from former exchange students at IIS-RU through IIS-RU Facebook. In addition, the non-degree program coordinators are willing to assist the students for recommendations of apartments/hotels within walking distance to the university.

 

What kinds of insurance should non-degree program students get?

Non-degree program students should secure an international insurance that provides a wide range of medical / accidental coverage prior to their arrival in Thailand by their own. The Institute of International Studies, Ramkhamhaeng University (IIS-RU) does not offer or provide any medical or accidental insurance during their study.
